Day 1: Valencia Lake
Reception in the airport , transfer to
Wasai Maldonado Lodge were you will be welcomed with a delicious tropical
juice. After a short explanation by the guide we will left the luggage
bringing just the necessary things for one day and one night and we
will embark in a motor boat to go to Valencia Lake far away 2
hours from Maldonado plus 3 km hiking though the forest until arrive to the
bank of the lake; there, a small canoe will be witing for us to transport to
the refuge in the lake. After accommodation in the refuge we will take a rest
and them we will paddle to observe a special place were hundreds of birds met
every afternoon to wait and pass the night. This
place is called the Island Birds, it is a safety place for birds from its
nocturnal depredators, after that we will see the Sun set , normally are spectacular
colors and views of the sun behind the forest . return to the refuge to
take a shower and have lunch.
After
lunch we will paddle again searching for caimans. Some of them bigger
than five meters.

Day 2: Sandoval lake
Wake
up with the sounds of oropendolas , hauler monkeys, macaws and other sounds.
We will start to walk at 5 am to visit a small clay lick were parrots and
macaws of 6 species arrive every day to eat mineral salts. some times
the clay lick is visited by other birds and mammals such as peccaries ,
tapirs, and monkey.
We
will stay until around 8 am in the clay lick after that we will return to the
refuge for breakfast.
After a short rest we will make a walk through the 5 km circuit into the
forest to see and learn more about the Amazon,
with chances to observe wildlife and identify medical plants that our local
guides will show us. A
special lunch will be waiting for us in the refuge. You can avoid this
circuit and stay in the banks of the lake fishing or just relaxing.
After
lunch we will embark in a motor boat to the access path of Sandoval Lake.
Around 3 pm we will start a comfortable trek though a wide path of 3 km until
arrive to the Sandoval banks. there, we take a small canoe to paddle and
observe the special beauty of this Lake. This time is perfect to observe
parrots and macaws coming back to its nets in the top of the palm trees in
the banks of the lake. Also it is possible to observe a family of Giant River
Otter who live in the like. With the night we will start our boat trip to
Puerto Maldonado.
